This product has been discontinued by the manufacturer. You might want to check the latest best products from Hurom.

Hurom HU-100SB Slow Juicer is the successor of Hurom HU 100. There’s virtually no difference between the two but the juicing cap. With the cap, you can mix up to 350 ml (12oz) of juice straight from the chamber, no need to use a separate juice collector.

When it’s full just open the tap, and be sure to have an empty glass at your disposal so you can catch and gulp down your freshly pressed juice right away.

This vertical masticating juice extractor is beautifully designed in noble silver and is BPA-free. It utilizes a dual stage extraction process, resulting in high quantities of juice full in flavor and phytonutrients.

This electric juicer weighs 13.2 pounds and takes up less space on the kitchen counter. It has a handy black handle making it easy to lift and move around the kitchen.

It uses 150 watts and 120 volts of power. In contrast with centrifugal juicers, it operates quietly as it crushes and extracts the juice. The auger only rotates at the speed of 80 RPM.

This ensures the vital nutrients, enzymes, and vitamins remain intact. Additionally, this Ultem auger is constructed to crush the hardest produce. Ultem plastic is eight times stronger than most other brands.

To make the juicer even more durable, the included strainer is made of stainless steel and Ultem plastic. The feed chute is large at 2.25 inches by 1.25 inches in diameter and allows for larger items to pass through it.

A convenient spinning brush automatically clears the juicing strainer of any pulp collection, allowing for continuous operation.

Pros

  • Highly compact design allows it to fit counter space of any size
  • 80 RPM results in very minimal oxidation and higher juice yield
  • 12 oz (350 ml) juicing chamber with silicon juice cap
  • Automatic cleanup system
  • Super quiet operation
  • Can process wide varieties of produce
  • Ultem Auger gear
  • 72 hours juice shelf life
  • BPA free parts
  • Continuous juicing with external pulp ejection
  • Can make soy and almond milk and tofu

Cons

  • Mid-priced, but still on the affordable end
  • Not dishwasher safe
  • Masticating juicers are generally slow, and cutting your produce into small pieces will make the whole process even slower but the juice quality is a good compromise
  • Not as efficient for processing wheatgrass than horizontal masticating juicing machines but it’s way better than centrifugal juicers

Hurom HU-100SB Features & Product Details

Is it easy to use?

This juicing machine is simple to set up and use. Even though it has a larger feed chute, it is always good to get into the habit of chopping up your larger produce into smaller portion sizes.

These items are more easily crushed and juiced when they are smaller. This is especially important when you juice items like celery or wheatgrass.

Also, alternate greens and wheatgrass with denser items to assist in moving the items through the juicer.

It does an excellent job with a wide variety of produce, especially when you alternate between soft and hard items. The juicer is self-feeding and most likely won’t need any help from the pusher.

However, if anything ever seems stuck, firmly use to pusher to help it catch on the auger blades. Do not jam the pusher into the feed chute. You might damage the juicer that way.

Watch out for possible clogging in the pulp ejection spout. If it is ejecting pulp, then everything is working properly.

Is it easy to clean?

The components of the Hurom HU-100SB Juicer are not dishwasher safe. If the dishwasher damages them, then the warranty will be void. It does not take long to clean the parts of the juicer.

Pour water into the juicer and allow it to operate, rinsing prior to washing it. Allow the water to drain out into the sink. Put everything in warm, soapy water.

Thoroughly wash everything. Make sure to take the cleaning brush and scrub the pulp stuck in the mesh juicing screen. Check inside of the pulp ejector tube for leftover pulp.

Dry the parts by hand or set them out to dry. Make sure you do not put the juicer back together until everything is fully dry.

If you are unable to wash it after use, then rinse the parts, and set them aside until you can wash it properly. The only part that needs attention straight away is the mesh strainer because dried pulp is difficult to remove from the tiny holes in the screen.

If you allow the pulp to dry and harden in the screen, let it soak in warm or hot water for about 10 minutes to soften the pulp.

Juice quality

Since this is a masticating juicer type, this machine removes the juice from the produce through a cold-press, dual mastication method. The tough Ultem auger easily crushes the produce and then presses the pulp against the mesh screen separating it to produce full flavored juice filled with nutrients, enzymes, and vitamins.

The pulp is ejected out of the pulp ejection tube into a separate container. The juice will most likely have some remaining pulp. If you do not like pulpy juice, you will have to pick up a sieve from the local store to strain and remove the pulp.

Drink it right away or pour into a glass container to the top. Cover with a tight lid and place into the refrigerator for no longer than 72 hours.

What kinds of produce can the Hurom HU-100SB juice?

This juice press can process wide varieties of produce—soft & hard produce, citrus fruits, leafy greens, and some beans and nuts.

Hard produce includes pear, pineapple, turmeric, yakon, pumpkin, beets, ginger, cilantro, cauliflower, carrots, celery, broccoli, fennel, asparagus, sweet potato, bitter gourd, garlic, cucumber, coconut, pepper, apple, and watermelon.

You need to purchase a separate coarse strainer to turn mango, strawberry, avocado, pomegranate, grapes, tomato, blackberry, cranberries, papaya, peach, melon, and kiwifruit into a puree.

Leafy greens include collard greens, pine tree needles, lettuce, spinach, brussels sprout, peppermint, spring onion, basil, wheatgrass, dandelion greens, kale, cabbage, parsley, moringa, and beet greens.

Though this juice maker can process leafy greens, an 80 RPM upright masticating juicer is not ideal for juicing wheatgrass and green leafy vegetables on its own. It should be done along with other produce to aid in juice extraction.

Don’t get me wrong here, it still outperforms centrifugal juicers but it’s just not as efficient as horizontal masticating juicers. Newer vertical cold press juicers running half that speed (43 RPM) can now process leafy greens and wheatgrass at a more efficient rate.

Citrus fruits include grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, mandarin, lime and orange.

You can also make soy and almond milk out of this machine.
