Green Apple & Kale Smoothie Recipe

Kales are nutrient-dense vegetables that made them famous in the smoothie world. This is why, for this recipe, we’ll be trying Vitamix’s Apple Kale Smoothie.

Kales are all year round, so you don’t have to wait for spring or summer just to make this smoothie.

To be frank, though, if you don’t like the flavor of the kale, you’re better off with other recipes, such as the avocado cucumber lime smoothie.

How to make the Apple Kale Smoothie?

First off, prep your orange. It’s better to have a seedless orange as you don’t have to dig in and look for the seeds. By having so, you only need to remove the rind.

Secondly, the apple. This is pretty intuitive, so I’ll leave you to it.

For the kale, simply remove the fibrous stem and just use the leaf part. And of course, don’t forget to wash it beforehand.

Luckily, the rest of the ingredients of the apple kale smoothie don’t need any preparation. So, start by adding the liquid and soft ingredients—water and grapes. Followed by the orange, apple, kale, and ice cubes on top.

Tip: It’s better to put the heavy/solid ones on top to push down the ingredients.

Substitutions and Add-ins

You can substitute the green grapes with either red grapes, strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries. Likewise, you can switch the green apple for pears, peaches, or obviously, a red apple.

These sweet fruits balance out the solid kale-y flavor of the apple kale smoothie. 

Just note that if you use these colored substitutes, the color will be different. It’ll be a brown-ish smoothie, depending on the amount you add. 

For more protein, try adding chia seeds. The ratio of 1 tablespoon chia seeds is to an 8-ounce smoothie. You can either soak this in water or add it while blending.

If you’re using a blender with a removable cap, then putting more ingredients is easy-peasy. However, if you’re using a personal blender or a Ninja Blender, you’re going to need to stop the process. Then, add the chia seeds and blend once more.

The Apple Kale Smoothie is a quick-to-make smoothie if you’re usually busy. And thanks to the kale, it’s highly nutritious.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup (120 ml) water

  • 1 cup (150 g) green grapes

  • ½ orange, peeled and seeded

  • ½ green apple, halved and seeded

  • 2 cups (130 g) kale

  • 2 cups (260 g) ice cubes

Directions

  • Prep the ingredients.
  • With the listed order of the ingredients, add them to your blender.
  • Starting from low, ramp up to high and blend for 45 seconds or until smooth.
