Breville Big Squeeze Slow Juicer

4.5

The Breville Big Squeeze Juicer is unique in that it has a dual chute system. There's a bigger 3-inch chute intended for whole apples and larger portions of fruits and vegetables and a smaller chute where longer items can fit, like 3-inch long sections of celery stalks.

The Bottom Line

This juicer is quiet, efficient, is affordably priced, and backed by a 10-year warranty. It also processes any type of produce. Simply put, there isn't much not to like about the Breville Big Squeeze!

Pros:
  • Compact design
  • Lower price vs other competing slow juicers
  • Higher juice yield & dryer pulp vs other Breville juicers
  • 72 hour juice shelf life

What kinds of produce can the Breville Big Squeeze process?

Carrots
Hard produce like carrots are easily juiced
pineapples
Soft, fleshy fruit like pineapple is handled with ease
kale good
The Breville Big Squeeze even juices leafy greens like kale and wheatgrass

This juice press can take all types of fruits and vegetables such as dense produce, soft fruits, leafy greens, citrus fruits, and nuts and beans (soaked overnight). There are just some special considerations to follow.

Suggested Prep Work for Certain Produce

To ensure best results and protect your Breville Big Squeeze Juicer from damage, please follow the manufacturers instructions by:

Chop dense, fibrous produce to at most 1 inch (2cm) wide and 2 inches (5cm) long. There’s a separate smaller chute for this type of produce. The same thing goes for fibrous leafy greens. Following this instruction will maximize your juice yield and prevent damage to your juicer.

Refrain from dumping whole apples into the juicer. Doing so causes stress to the plastic. This may cause it to break. Soft ingredients such as apples, oranges, and tomatoes should be cut into 4 pieces before putting it in the feeding basket. Also, remove hard seeds or pits in fruits.

Soak nuts and beans overnight before processing. This maximizes the results and protects your investment.

Slightly thaw frozen fruits before processing. Making smoothies out of frozen fruits is a big no-no for this juicer.

Be Aware

Although we did not experience this, some customer reviews we found talk about how the plastic lid cracks with normal use. We recommend you follow these prep guidelines found above and in the instruction manual. We suspect, but cannot confirm, that broken plastic lids _probably_ come from incorrectly prepared produce being inserted into the device.

Breville Big Squeeze Features

Compact Design

The juicer has a very small footprint when assembled, making leaving it on your countertop a viable option.

Lower Price vs Competing Models

The Breville Big Squeeze Juicer is surprisingly affordable. Especially given that its a Breville and a vertical slow juicer. Both of those things usually equal expensive!

In fact, of our top slow juicer recommendations, only one comes in less expensive than this unit.

Higher Juice Yield vs Other Breville Juicers

The Big Squeeze will produce the highest juice yield when compared to all other Breville Juicers. The reason is because the Big Squeeze is a masticating juicer while the other units are all less efficient centrifugal juicers.

It will produce the driest pulp of any Breville Juicer. That goes for hard dense vegetables and for soft fleshy fruits.

dry pulp

Juice Quality – 72 Hour Shelf Life

The slow juicing process is the gold standard of juice quality. This masticating action along with the BJS700SIL’s BPA-free components guarantees a full-bodied flavor and a nutrient-rich juice every time you use it. You can even store your juice for 3 days if you’re planning to go on a juice fast.

Easy to Clean

The Big Squeeze Juicer is not dishwasher safe like other juicer brands. However, constantly exposing plastic to harsh chemicals in the dishwasher can damage its integrity over time. The best way to clean your juicer is by washing it manually.

Breville provides a hard bristle brush and a squeegee to help you clean the screen as easily as possible.

Fun Fact

Even though the Big Squeeze doesn’t have dishwasher safe components like many brands, I almost always recommend hand-washing anyway, no matter what the manufacturer says. Hand washing your components will help them last longer and protect your investment over time.

Ultra Quiet Motor

The Breville Big Squeeze is shockingly quiet. It’s quieter than most masticating juicers we’ve tested, which are already not very loud. Especially compared to the centrifugal juicers that make up the rest of Breville’s juicing lineup, the Big Squeeze is a whisper is a room of shouting juicers!

10 Year Warranty

Breville Big Squeeze or the Breville BJS700SIL is the only juicer in Breville’s lineup to offer a 10-year warranty. Every other juicer comes with only a 1-year warranty, which is a little disappointing given the price-point of the other juicers.

But you can rest at ease if you go with the Big Squeeze. A 10-year warranty is nothing to sneeze at.

Did You Know?

This unit is the offspring of the first Breville Slow Juicer, or rather its replacement. If you’re looking for a Breville cold press juicer, this is your only choice. Whole slow juicers are the best juicers for celery juice.

Is Breville BJS700SIL easy to use?

There are some unique steps that you need to follow when operating The Big Squeeze. It may overwhelm you at first but I bet it’s going to be a piece of cake the next time you use it. Be sure to read your manual when you assemble and use this juice extractor. Carefully following the steps will ensure a smooth juicing experience.

I mentioned above that this machine has two chutes. I’ll explain how to use it in a bit but I just wanted to add that in the context of usability, this feature adds some degree of difficulty to the user.
