One major advantage Breville Juice Fountain Cold Plus has over the very first iteration of juicers equipped with cold-spin technology is its space-saving design. Instead of the traditional horizontal configuration, it has an L-shape form to fit smaller counter spaces.

Apart from the L-shaped design, if you’ll take a look that the original Juice Fountain Cold, you’ll see a startling difference. Breville BJE530BSS is more refined and elegant.

In terms of performance, there’s no difference between the two. It’s just a matter of preference. If you like stainless steel but a more expensive juicer, go for the Plus. If you prefer a budget-friendly option, go for the classic Breville Juice Fountain Cold Juicer.

Or, if you or your family have a massive appetite for nutrient-rich juices, you might want to go big by getting the Juice Fountain Cold XL.

Breville Juice Fountain Cold Plus Features

The Juice Fountain Cold Plus has a number of features that make it a strong choice for a fast, centrifugal juicer. Here are the best features of the Breville Juice Fountain Plus:

Wide Chute

One of the best features is the wide chute found on the Breville Juice Fountain Cold Plus. Being 3.5 inches wide, you don’t have to chop your produce into small pieces.

This saves considerable time. You’ll spend more time juicing and less time prepping!

3.5 inch chute 1

A lot of wide-mouthed juicers make this claim and fail to deliver, with many of them providing lower juice quality when you don’t chop the ingredients somewhat. That is not the case with the Breville Juice Fountain Plus.

In fact, I can juice whole apples with no cutting at all without sacrificing juice quality. I can even feed 4 to 5 carrots at a time into the chute! This thing is a beast that can handle anything you throw at it.

2-Liter Pitcher with Built-In Froth Separator

One of the things I love about the Breville Juice Fountain Cold Plus is the anti-foam pitcher. The worst thing about centrifugal juicers that many people complain about it the foam that can decrease juice quality when juicing some fruits and vegetables.

To counteract this problem while still giving you the speed and ease-of-use of a centrifugal juicer, Breville has added a built-in froth separator to the 2-liter pitcher that comes with the juicer.

Slip On Juicing Nozzle

With the innovative slip-on nozzle, you can juice a single serving without using the large pitcher. That way, you don’t have to involve a 2-liter container when all you want to juice is a few apples.

The rubberized nozzle easily slips on and grips itself into place. Out comes the juice into your glass instead of all over your kitchen!

spout

Keep in mind that the nozzle doesn’t have the same froth separator as the pitcher, so you could still end up with some pulpy foam at the top of your juice with some produce when juicing just one glass.

Cold Extraction System

The Cold Extraction System is where the “Cold” comes from in the name Breville Juice Fountain Cold Plus. Breville advertises the technology as a way to reduce heat transfer from the device to the juice.

Heating juice destroys some of the nutrients that would otherwise be found in the juice. It is also harmful to the taste. So Breville’s design is a way to get around–as much as possible–the drawbacks of fast, centrifugal juicers.

Besides the base equipment, the Juice Fountain Plus only comes with a 1-quart Juice Jug with Froth Separator so that you can enjoy your juice immediately. It also comes with a cleaning brush to make cleanup a bit easier and ensure you get into all the nooks and crannies where bacteria can grow if not cleaned properly.

Using the Breville BJE530BSS Juice Fountain Cold Plus

Is Breville BJE530BSS easy to use?

Centrifugal juicers are quite simple to operate. With Juice Fountain Cold Plus’ ultra-wide chute, your prep time will be significantly reduced. It can accommodate a whole apple, carrot, celery stalks, or anything that can pass through its 3.5-inch opening. All it needs is a little help from the food pusher.

There is a simple high/low switch to allow for easy operation. Use the low setting for soft produce and leafy greens, and the high speed for dense produce like whole apples.

Putting the machine together to start juicing is also fairly easy. There are markings on the juicer to help you line everything up, and it only takes a few minutes to put together once you get the hang of it. But, if this is your first juicer, expect a slight learning curve with this new appliance.

What Kinds of Produce Can It Juice?

Breville Juice Fountain Cold Plus will work best on dense produce, softer ones, and citruses. You can mix leafy greens with water-rich fruits and vegetables like cucumber, apples, etc., but you shouldn’t juice green leafy vegetables by themselves.

leafy greens no
The Juice Fountain Cold Plus can’t extract juice from leafy greens.

Apples, pears, peaches, and oranges are my favorite produce to juice in the Breville Fountain. You should avoid produce that doesn’t produce juice, such as bananas. These are best left to smoothies you can’t make in the Breville Juice Fountain Cold Plus.

On the other hand, I know some people who use the Breville Juice Fountain to pulverize tomatoes and green peppers for use in sauces and other recipes. Just remember that you can’t put heated ingredients in the juicer.

Juice Quality

Breville claims its proprietary Cold Spin Technology can extend the juice’s shelf life to 72 hours. If that’s true, it’s comparable to cold press juicers. Breville achieved this by minimizing heat transfer by moving the spout above the cutting disk. This minor modification will keep heat transfer at less than 1.8°F.

However, I’ll take it with a grain of salt, as heat only plays a small part in the breakdown of essential nutrients. Oxidation eclipses heat in the grand scheme of things, which is impossible to minimize in the case of high-speed juicing machines.

As a centrifugal juicer, your juices will last about 24 hours and no more. You really need to drink it within hours of juicing for the best results.

On the other hand, juice from a cold press machine will last as long as 72 hours. As such, slow-masticating cold-press juicers still have the edge when it comes to nutrient retention and juice extraction efficiency.

Dietician’s Note

One of the main reasons people turn to cold-pressed juices is for the extra vitamins and minerals they provide. Depending on the fruits and vegetables used, fresh juice can provide the following: Vitamin C, Beta-carotene (converted in the body to vitamin A), Vitamin K, Calcium, Potassium, Manganese, & Magnesium.

Is it easy to clean?

High-speed juicers are a tad difficult to maintain because of the following.

  1. They have huge parts, which can take some time to wash.
  2. The filter basket accumulates fibers and residue, which can build up if not taken care of right away.

Dishwasher Safe

On the positive side, most parts of Breville The Juice Fountain Cold Plus are dishwasher safe, but please don’t skip running it under your faucet with warm water. A cleaning brush comes with this centrifugal juicer, which I find is the best way to remove all pulp.

Be Sure to Clean Thoroughly

In fact, the FDA warns consumers that juicers and spoiled juice can cause severe flu-like symptoms. If you notice any of these, you should check to ensure you get your juicer completely clean.

If you’re not sure you’re getting the screen clean or the juicer becomes clogged, you can remove three small screws to completely remove the screen for easier cleaning with the included brush. I have found this very easy to do, and it makes a big difference.

I Prefer Hand-washing For Device Longevity

Dishwashers can damage plastic over time, so you’ll have to wash it manually every now and then.

You can line up the pulp bin with a biodegradable bag to make things easier. Now, you don’t have to deal with the oversized pulp collector.

Is the Breville Juice Fountain Cold Plus worth it?

The Breville The Juice Fountain Cold Plus, or should I say the Juice Fountain Cold family is quite impressive, but I’m still not sold on the idea that it’s on par with slow juicers. If we’ll keep the battleground to high-speed juicers, the Juice Fountain Cold Plus, without a doubt, is on top of the food chain.

If you like things fast, Breville BJE530BSS could be your perfect match.

FAQs

Do I need to remove the rinds before juicing oranges in the Breville Juice Fountain?

You should remove all rinds before putting produce in the Breville Juice Fountain. Otherwise, the screens will get gunked up even faster. I found that this Breville juicer is better for produce other than citrus fruits. A cold press juicer is much better for orange juice.

Can I crush ice into my juice by putting it into the Breville Juice Fountain?

You can crush a small amount of ice into your juice, but be aware it might get caught in the screen.

What about frozen fruit?

Never put frozen fruit in a juicer. It is absolutely necessary to completely thaw the fruit before juicing it. Keep in mind that frozen-then-thawed fruits are much softer when going into the juicer, so make sure you compensate.
