Ginger Pineapple Lemon Smoothie

The Ginger Pineapple Lemon Smoothie is one of my post workout smoothies. It’s easy to make, so you don’t have to wait 30 minutes.

As a matter of fact, you can easily prepare it before your exercise, so you can just blend it once you’re done.

In any case, this smoothie has a spicy kick to it, which reminds me of the ginger-fried rice I occasionally make. I digress. The point is, it’s a uniquely flavored smoothie worth trying.

With that said, let’s blend it.

How to make the Ginger Pineapple Smoothie?

First off, wash your spinach, ginger, and lemon. If your lemon has that coating for preservation, you can wash it off with hot water for a few seconds and put it in an ice bath. The coating is technically food-safe, so you can skip that if you want.

Add the milk to the blender. Before extracting the lemon juice, zest it first since that’s easier. Then, place in the spinach.

Afterward, peel the ginger, and place it (along with frozen pineapples) on top of the spinach.

Blend for about 45 seconds or until smooth. This usually depends on your blender’s power. If you have a high-powered blender, it can be as short as 30 seconds.

Substitutions and Add-ins

For the liquid base of the ginger pineapple lemon smoothie, you have numerous options—water, fruit juice, regular milk, and non-dairy milk.

Just note that if you use water, it will likely dilute the flavor. When you use fruit juice, it might become too sweet since there are already many pineapples. This is why I recommend milk for this recipe.

Naturally, you can use other citrus fruits instead of lemon.

If you’ve used spinach for your last green smoothie, you might want to switch it up with other greens such as kale, lettuce, cabbage, etc.

By the way, you can add twice as much of the greens—if you want more nutritional content to the ginger pineapple lemon smoothie.

Here’s more:

Try to make sure that the ginger is just enough. Ginger is a potent ingredient, so too much can result in a solid gingery, spicy flavor.

As for the pineapple, you can use a fresh one if it’s available. Then again, it will take more prep time which isn’t ideal for busy schedules. If you don’t have pineapple, any tropical fruit will do just fine.

You can top it with your favorite superfood. In my case, I used chia seeds as a topping for that extra protein.

The Ginger Pineapple Lemon Smoothie is a unique blend of flavors. It’s sweet yet spicy (a little bit) and a tad tangy. To be honest, describing what it tastes like is nearly impossible, so you’d have to try it yourself. Taste it to believe it.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk

  • 1 lemon worth of zest and juice

  • 1 cup of spinach

  • 1 inch (2cm) knob fresh ginger, peeled

  • 2 cups (245g) frozen pineapple

Directions

  • Wash and prepare your fresh ingredients.
  • One by one, in the order of the components, place it into your blender and lock the lid.
  • Start on the lowest speed and up it to max rating. If you have an automatic smoothie setting, use that.
  • For 45 seconds, blend until smooth or your desired consistency is reached.
