Green Juice is generalized, as there are different “green” ingredients. For instance, in this roundup, you can find these common ingredients:
- Kale
- Spinach
- Lettuce
- Celery; Btw, I have a more in-depth guide for celery juice.
- Broccoli
While green usually refers to veggies, cucumber and apple are two of the most common green juice ingredients. Besides, fruits allow your juice to be tastier, so why not?
Here’s the deal:
When we talk about benefits, just know that one recipe can drastically differ from another.
Now, let’s see what benefits you can get from a green juice.
Benefits
Important: If you plan to have a green juice diet, talk to your doctor firsthand.
It’s no secret that veggies and fruits are healthy. Hence, the “eat your veggies” reminder.
Cucumber is rich in Vitamin K. It also contains antioxidants and may promote weight loss. On the other hand, Apple is great for adding flavor to your green juice. Of course, apples also have several benefits.
Kale and spinach pack a substantial amount of vitamins A, C, and K. Although kale is more nutrient-rich than spinach. In fact, kale happens to be one of the most nutrient-dense foods in the world!
On a slightly different note:
Lettuce is a popular option for salad, which I’m sure you already know. Just like kale and spinach, it’s an excellent source of vitamins and other minerals your body needs. Needless to say, it’s also true for broccoli.
Here’s the best part:
These vegetables have been linked to a lower risk of heart disease, may help with weight loss, may strengthen your immune system, etc. Amy Myers, MD, talked more about these benefits in-depth.
You can also get most of these nutrients by drinking their juice extract. Better yet? It’s certainly easier to drink than to eat a substantial amount of veggies.
However! Heed these precautions first…
Precautions
Since these are juice recipes, most of the fibers have been removed. While that’s not a bad thing in itself, we still need fiber. So, if you add green juice to your diet, it’s also essential to consider your fiber intake.
Here’s more:
Green juice is more nutrient-dense than its solid regular counterparts. While getting the right amount of nutrients is good, too much is never a good thing.
For instance, drinking too much green juice with high oxalate content may result in some kidney problems.
Furthermore, if you add lots of fruits, your green juice may result in high sugar levels. So, make sure to be wary of your ingredients.
If you add a green juice to your diet, ensure that you’ll only drink it in moderation along with a balanced meal.
