What I Like About the Hurom HZ Slow Juicer

It’s a Versatile Juicer

Hurom HZ Juicer
The Hurom HZ is a well-built juicer that also has a citrus juicing attachment; something most juicers don’t include.

Like many vertical masticating juicers by Hurom, the Hurom HZ can make sorbets and nut milks.

In full disclosure, I don’t usually make nut milks when I test juicers, but decided to do so with this one. After soaking the almonds overnight, I rinsed them before adding back a bit of water and feeding them through the HZ. Let me tell you, fresh almond milk is very refreshing! And the Hurom HZ was able to render it without any problem.

One thing the HZ has that many Hurom juicers don’t, is a citrus attachment. The dome-shaped attachment hooks onto the HZ and turns it into a manual citrus juicer.

It also has an ice scream strainer attachment, which I did not test.

I Can Control the Pulp

The Hurom HZ features both course and fine strainers. This allows you to control the amount of pulp in your juice. So if you like a orange juice that’s rich in pulp, you can have it with the Hurom HZ.

Great Juice Quality

While not exclusive to the HZ, or to Hurom for that matter, the rendered juice is of exceptional quality. The reason is because it’s a slow masticating juicer that rotates at only 43 RPMs. That’s incredibly low; lower, in fact, that the new Hurom H400 model.

It is Well Built

All Hurom Juicers, and the HZ is no exception, are well-built juicing machines. You can tell by the materials, the fit, and finish. There are no loosely connected parts that rattle during operation. And the exterior is stainless steel. It doesn’t get much better than that.

It Has a 10-Year Warranty

The Hurom HZ, like all Hurom juicers, has a 10-year warranty on the motor and a 2-year warranty on all the parts. Here’s a tip: if you want to get an idea of the quality of something, look at how long the manufacturer backs the item with a warranty. A 10-year warranty is exceptionally long and only matched by a few other juicer manufacturers.

Things I Don’t Like About the Hurom HZ

It Has a Narrow Chute

narrow chute

Narrow chutes mean you have a lot of prep work to do prior to juicing. As someone who tests a lot of juicers, I’ve grown annoyed by those with narrow chutes. Because of the amount of prep work I have to do, it really disincentivizes me from juicing.

If you buy the HZ, know that you’ll be getting a very high-quality juicer. But you’ll be getting a very high-quality juicer with a small chute.

It’s Not Dishwasher Safe

The Hurom HZ is not dishwasher safe. Now this isn’t a big deal for me because I always hand-wash my appliances. But I know this can be a big pain for many of my readers, so that’s why I’ve included it here.

The HZ isn’t nearly as easy to clean as the Hurom H400. So it’ll require a bit of elbow-grease to clean the screens after juicing. But you can pour warm water down the chute after juicing to clean up most of the debris, which will make cleaning a bit easier.

It’s Expensive

The Hurom HZ is very expensive. In fact, it’s one of the more expensive juicers that still have a narrow chute. Many vertical masticating juicers at this price are going to have large chute or the chute will be replaced by a hopper and a self-feeding system. But that isn’t the case with the Hurom HZ.
