Jack Lalanne Power Juicer Classic

This product has been discontinued by the manufacturer. You might want to check these high-quality juice extractors that are still on the market.

Jack Lalanne Power Juicer Classic is a single speed centrifugal juicer that can process hard produce, soft fruits, and citrus fruits. What’s unique with the Power Juicer line-up is it’s pretty slow for a high-speed juicer with a maximum RPM of just 3,600. That makes it more quiet than other centrifugal juice extractors and makes it ideal for juicing soft fruits.

Similar with other leading centrifugal juicing machine it also features a 3-inch-wide feeding chute and a large pulp container for a hassle-free juicing. If you’re not planning to use the pulp, it is advisable to put a plastic bag in the pulp container. This way you can discard your pulp with ease.

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Dishwasher safe parts
  • 3-inch feeding chute
  • Fast juice extraction
  • External pulp ejection with large bin
  • At 3,600 RPM, it’s probably more quiet than other high-speed electric juicers

Cons

  • The one-speed setting is limited to juicing hard produce and citrus fruits
  • Not efficient in juice extraction, producing wet pulp
  • Not BPA free
  • Juice processed by high-speed juicers oxidize rapidly leading to a 24-hour shelf life
  • Though the motor has a lifetime warranty, all other parts warrantied for 60 days
  • Expensive replacement parts
  • According to several customer reviews, the plastic thread in the motor housing connecting to the blade and strainer breaks easily and the replacement part is $60. This is worth more than a brand new juice maker.

Power Juicer Classic Features & Product Details

Is it Easy to Use?

This juice extractor is fairly easy to assemble and operate. Once you’ve assembled everything properly and the locking bar is secure, just turn on the motor and you’re good to go. The size of the feeding chute is approximately 3 inches, it can take large chunks of produce, even a whole carrot or apple as long as it fits the chute opening. You will have to gently push your produce to assist in the juice extraction process. At this point, all you have to do is catch your freshly pressed juice.

If you find your juicer stopping from time to time it might be because of its safety feature. This machine will stop in cases of overheating and getting jammed. To prevent this make sure to leave a wiggle room when adding your produce, and do not overload. Aside from overheating the plastic thread that connects the motor with the strainer and the blade might break.

Is it Easy to Clean?

The plastic parts of this electric juicer are dishwasher safe. You will have to wipe the motor base with a damp cloth and that’s it for the most part. What’s pretty challenging, however, are the strainer and the blade. Having a brush is advantageous when cleaning the strainer, sadly there’s no complementary brush. You’ll have to buy it separately at Jack Lalanne’s online store. As with the blade, it’s a good thing that they have a crescent tool for tightening and removing the blade. Never put your blade in the dishwasher, clean it manually but be very careful.

If you’ll choose the white model, there are complaints of staining. The manufacturer advised the use of white vinegar and warm water to get rid of it.

Juice Quality

Juice produced by Power Juicer Classic is on the low end as with every centrifugal juicer. Though it runs a little bit slower, 3600 RPM can still cause considerable oxidation to the juice. Oxidation is the reason why juice produced by high-speed juicers can only last for 24 hours. To make the most out of the nutrition in your juice, it is advisable to drink it immediately or at least within a 15-minute time frame.

What Kinds of Produce Can this Classic Power Juicer Process?

This juicing machine will best perform on hard produce, citrus fruits, and soft fruits.

Hard Produce such as beets, carrots, apple, asparagus, pear, pineapple, watermelon, bitter gourd, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, cilantro, cucumber, fennel bulb, garlic, ginger, pepper, pumpkin, sweet potato, and turmeric.

Citrus fruits such as grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime, orange, and mandarin.

Can it Juice Leafy Greens, Soft Fruits and Nuts?

While there are techniques out there to process leafy greens on fast juicers, it’s not efficient and not as easy as cold press juicers. You are going to waste a lot of nutritional value trying to juice leafy greens out of this machine.

Since this juice extractor is a low-speed juicer, you can process soft fruits to some extent. Soft fruits include blackberry, avocado, melon, tomato, cranberries, strawberry, pomegranate, papaya, grapes, mango, kiwifruit and peach

Making soy and almond milk is not possible with this machine.

Verdict

I can’t really recommend Jack Lalanne Power Juicer Classic to anyone. Just look at the long list of disadvantages above. This machine is fragile, not BPA free and worst of all not efficient. Save yourself from the headache of owning this machine.
