Juicing alone will not help you lose weight but it’s a great way to jumpstart your metabolism in your endeavor of dropping your dress size.

Let’s face it; dieting is not exactly something nutritionists endorse as the best method for losing weight.

There are many unhealthy, fad diets out there that do not produce lasting results.

Dieting effectively forces your body to shed weight as a result of a reduction in calories. When you revert back to your old eating patterns, you regain the weight.

For this reason, a well-balanced diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables is encouraged.

I want to congratulate you on choosing to start your path to a healthier lifestyle.

Before you go any further, I would like to discuss some misconceptions about juicing, digestive health and the proper methods of juicing, which are briefly explained below.

Why Juicing?

The great thing about juicing is that it is not truly a diet. Even though fresh vegetable and fruit juice will not instantly melt the weight from your person, when done correctly, you can certainly lose weight.

A juice fast is not sustainable or recommended over long periods of time. Although, it is an excellent way to rid yourself of bad eating habits by cleansing your system and palate.

Most people are already aware that the daily consumption of a variety of fruits and vegetables naturally increases your intake of the nutrients, vitamins and minerals that your body needs.

In order to really give your body the boost it needs for weight loss, a juice fast is a better option than fasting entirely without any type of nutrition.

Digestive Health Effects on the Body

Some professionals dispute any claims of the benefits acquired through a juicing fast because of the lack of studies supporting these claims. One argument is that a healthy digestive system removes toxins and flushes the body with ease.

While factual, not everyone leads the proper lifestyle that supports this delicate process. It is true that juicing alone should not be done for an extended period because your body needs fat, carbs and protein.

For example, if you workout frequently throughout the week—you absolutely need protein to build muscle mass. If you do not consume enough protein, you begin to experience atrophy.

Plus, you will soon begin to feel sluggish because the nutrients required to support an active lifestyle simply aren’t there.

It is also true that a juice fast will give your digestive tract a break while still absorbing many essential nutrients that your body needs.

Sure, a healthy person will have no problems with digestion, but if you are presently stuffing your body with white sugar, antibiotics, fried foods, carbonated drinks, etc., you are killing off the probiotic bacteria in your intestines that aid in the breakdown of the foods you consume.

It’s a well-known fact that the average person does not eat a balanced diet, which eventually leads to blockages in their intestines and colon. Thus, leading to acidification in the body, and finally, a disruption in the balance our body needs to function properly.

I don’t recommend running out and purchasing colon-cleansing products because you can achieve similar results with vegetable juicing, which is full of natural enzymes and antioxidants.

Besides, even if the colon-cleansing product states that it is “natural,” it most likely is not natural at all.

Do you want to fast or feast?

A juice fast is when you replace all of your meals with fresh juice. You will not consume any solids throughout the duration of your fast. Bearing in mind that the goal isn’t to starve your body.

You need to take in more juice to keep your body from entering the starvation zone, which slows down your metabolism, making it more difficult to lose weight in the future.

A juice feast is when you drink fresh juice along with eating healthy foods. Many choose this option when they cannot go without eating, such as those with diabetes or hypoglycemia.

Also, even while fasting, you can consume small portions of solids, but opt for raw produce if you do.

Next, fruit juice is not the ideal choice when attempting to lose weight. Yes, it tastes amazing, but it’s also full of sugar.

Utilizing leafy greens and other vegetables is the best way to nourish your body with nutrients while simultaneously losing weight and flushing your system.

Adding an apple or a few carrots will mask the taste without going overboard on the sugar content level. Make sure to consume a large volume of water when juicing.


As your body removes the build up and toxins, you will begin to feel more energetic, meaning you will be more inclined to exercise. Make sure that you do not engage in strenuous physical activity while juicing because it is too much for your body to handle.
Light exercise, like brisk walking, is highly recommended.

Juicing helps you learn to control what and how much you eat once you begin to incorporate solid foods back into your diet. By cleansing your palate, you curb your desire to eat sugary, processed foods that are not beneficial for your body and make it difficult to lose weight.

Eventually, you will lose any craving you previously had for these foods.

It helps to prevent hunger pains. When you go on a traditional fast, you are not consuming any nutrients at all.

This leaves you extremely hungry. With this option, you are ingesting a high level of nutrients provided by fresh vegetables and fruits.

This satisfies your need to eat, even though it might be difficult at first because you are ridding your body of bad eating habits. Breaking these habits is necessary if you want to lose weight.

Finally, there are no real boundaries when you decide to juice. You can supplement juicing with eating or you can do a complete fast. Not everyone has the time or money to fully commit to a fast. Tailor it to your needs.

I must also point out that juice fasting is not ideal for everyone. You need to take your current health into consideration. If you suffer from any medical conditions, are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, speak with your physician before beginning.

Even if you choose not to go through with juicing for weight loss, there is absolutely no harm in adding a glass of freshly squeezed juice that is full of phytonutrients and enzymes to your everyday meals.

    Not atrophy. I think you meant catabolization (protein scavenging from muscle).
