Vitamix Professional Series 500 Blender

Vitamix 500 is currently unavailable at Amazon, but it might still be listed on eBay as a preloved item. Or you can also check this Best Vitamix Blenders (list), for their latest product offering.

The Vitamix Professional Series 500 will turn 10 years old next year. But despite its age, it’s still a highly sought-after product from the top blender manufacturer.

One thing that I don’t like about the Vitamix Pro 500 is the classic container. Newer low-profile jars are more efficient than the tall ones, plus it’s easier to store.

I don’t want to waste your time, so instead of the Vitamix 500, get an Explorian Series blender. It has similar classic controls, with levers and a turn dial, and the same low-tech features.

And besides, Vitamix is no longer selling this professional series blender.

To be fair, let’s go over its features.

PROS

  • Classic design
  • Three preprogrammed settings
  • 10 variable speed control
  • Pulse feature
  • 2 HP commercial-grade motor
  • Highly durable blade
  • Large capacity 64-ounce (1.89 L) container
  • BPA-free parts
  • Compatible with optional classic containers
  • 7-year warranty

CONS

  • A bit pricey
  • Classic switches tend to accumulate food debris
  • Not dishwasher safe
  • No preset for self-cleaning
  • Tall profile container is not as efficient as those with a wider base

Vitamix 500 Features

What can you make with Vitamix Professional Series 500?

When Vitamix released the Vitamix Pro 500 in the market, they’re only promoting a few uses for it. But, with newer low profile containers, your blender is no longer limited to making smoothies.

Here’s a partial list of what it can do.

Thankfully, low-profile containers work with Vitamix’s 500 classic motor base.

Now let’s answer the question:

Is Vitamix Professional Series 500 easy to use?

Vitamix Professional Series 500 is very straightforward. It comes with familiar controls that will get you started in no time. As an additional perk, it comes with three presets—smoothies, hot soups, and frozen desserts.

Vitamix Pro 500 Control Panel

Just put your ingredients, set the dial to its appropriate setting, turn it on, and wait for the signal. There’s a blue light indicator at the lower-left corner of your motor base. It’s going to blink when the cycle is complete.

The only problem is it’s not dishwasher safe, and there’s also no button for self-cleaning. You’ll have to do it manually.

Technology

Don’t expect any smart features from this old product apart from the pre-programmed settings and the light indicator. If you’re looking for a more modern and high-tech blender, check out the Ascent Series.

See Vitamix 500 in Action

The Vitamix Professional Series 500 is a legacy blender that’s been around for approximately 10 years. It has a robust 2 horsepower motor that can make snow in under a minute. Better yet, it highlights 3 automatic blend settings making it a lot easier to use.

Vitamix Professional Series 500 Accessories

At first, I thought that the Vitamix Pro Series 500 isn’t compatible with low-profile containers. After doing a little bit of research, I figured that it is, but I’m not 100% certain. There’s really no info on Vitamix regarding which container works with what motor base.

So assuming that all classic motor base is compatible with all classic containers, here are your options.

Classic 64 oz (1.89 L) Container – Included

You’ll get this 64-ounce (1.89 L) classic container when you buy Vitamix Pro 500. It’s a tremendous general-purpose high-capacity jar that can help you prepare up to 10 servings of smoothies. It’s a good starting point, but it’s less efficient than low-profile models.

Low Profile 48 oz (1.4 L) Container

48 oz low-profile, model no. 56085

Model # 56085

This 48-ounce (1.4 L) low-profile container is a perfect accessory for busy chefs and home cooks. Sometimes you need to work on more than one recipe. Having an extra smaller jar will save you a lot of time—no need to wash in between recipes.

48 oz (1.4 L) Stainless Steel Container

Stainless Steel Container, 48 oz, model no. 067891

If you’re looking for a 100% BPA container, this 48-ounce (1.4 L) stainless steel container is your only choice. It doesn’t react with acidic ingredients, and it’s also odor and stain-resistant.

Aer Disc Container

Vitamix Aer Disc Container, 48 oz, model no. 065421

Model # 065421

The Aer Disc attachment is a new concept from the brand. It’s a patent-pending accessory that will give your blender the ability to muddle drinks, emulsify, whip cream, or foam milk. Perhaps, it’s trying to compete with your mixer.

32 oz (946 mL) Container

32 oz container, model no. 15842

Model # 15842

Get at Amazon →

Having this 32-ounce (946 mL) low-profile container would make perfect sense for a small household. If you don’t need to make 6 servings of smoothies in one blending session, this is the ideal attachment for your Vitamix Series 500.

32 oz (946 mL) Dry Grains Container

dry grains container, 32 oz, model no. 56090

Model # 56090

If you’re looking into making your own flour, this dry grains container is perfect for that task. It’s specially designed for pulverizing wheat and other whole grains. You won’t achieve the same thing with normal containers.

Personal Cup Adapter

Vitamix Personal Cup Adapter, model no. 61724

There are times when you only need to make one serving of smoothie. In that case, it would be ideal to have this Vitamix Personal Cup Adapter by your side.

After you’re done blending, you only have to deal with a smaller accessory to wash, not to mention that it’s dishwasher friendly.

Is Vitamix Professional Series 500 worth it?

Vitamix Pro Series 500 is a classic masterpiece from the brand. Though it still works like it was first released, Vitamix has newer and better options with low-profile containers.

So, if you’re looking for a Vitamix blender without the smart features, go for the more up to date Explorian Series. Get the Vitamix E320 if you need a 64-ounce jar or the Vitamix Explorian E310 if you only need a smaller one.
