Tips and Tricks

Here’s the deal:

Since watermelon is mostly water, it won’t be a creamy drink. Although, it’s not a bad thing obviously. But, if you want a creamy Watermelon Strawberry Smoothie, there are several ways you can do it.

1. Freeze your watermelon (cubes).

I mean, you’re not gonna place a whole watermelon in the freezer, right?

Jokes aside, you can cube your watermelon and freeze it before blending. You can also get frozen watermelon, so you don’t need to prepare.

Tip: If you want the best texture of crushed ice, you should check this list.

2. Or, use frozen fruits (even ice will work).

Just note that using ice will undoubtedly dilute the flavor.

3. Use thickening ingredients:

  • Avocado;
  • Chia seeds;
  • Nut butter;
  • Banana;

In this recipe, I used bananas.

Even better? Bananas double as a sweetener too!

On a different note:

For an extra “refreshing” feel to the smoothie, you can add peppermint as a garnish and to be blended.

If you want a green smoothie, you can add veggies such as spinach, kale, etc. I especially like spinach because its taste isn’t as robust as kale. In short, it won’t overshadow the main characters: watermelon and strawberries.

Substitutions

Instead of dairy milk, can you use coconut milk or better? Coconut water. Coconut water will add more depth to your Watermelon Strawberry Smoothie.

Yogurt will be an excellent addition, too, since watermelon is already mostly water. What I mean by that is that there’s no need to hold back on non-liquid ingredients.

By the way, kiwi is optional.

I used a ready-made (or cut) mixture of strawberries, bananas, and kiwi. But, if you don’t like kiwi, you can obviously skip it. But for me, it has a pleasant aftertaste, so that’s cool. Regardless, the banana balances out the kiwi, so both options are good.
