Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Plus 2-Speed Juice Extractor is a decent looking dual speed centrifugal juicer below the $100 range. Same with other big mouth models, this one comes with an 800 watt motor that can help you juice hard produce, citrus fruits and soft fruits as well, all thanks to its dual speed setting.
This machine features a 3 inch wide feeding chute which will allow you to juice whole apple or carrots without the need of cutting it into small pieces. However there are special circumstances when you still need to cut your produce. For example you need to get rid of tough seeds that could break your juicer and in case of citrus fruits the skin produces a bitter taste which you’ll have to get rid of as well.
Big Mouth Plus also shares the same extra large pulp bins to facilitate uninterrupted juicing plus you’ll get a BPA free pitcher that can hold up to 40 oz of freshly pressed juice. For added advantage all plastic parts are top rack dishwasher safe.

Is it Easy to Use?
With fewer parts to assemble and disassemble, this electric juicer is a snap to use and operate. Unlike other types of juicers with too many nuts and bolts, Big Mouth Plus was designed to be user friendly. You have two speed options. Use the low speed setting to juice soft fruits and use the high speed setting for processing tough produce like carrots and beets.
When choosing a juicer it’s highly advisable to pick one that has an external pulp ejection. It will make your juicing process a lot easier, well the good news is you’ll have that advantage with this model. External pulp ejection makes continuous juicing possible. The extra large pulp bin and the 40 oz juice collector adds a whole new level of convenience.
One more thing worth noting is the 3 inch wide feeding chute. A chute this big means that chopping your produce is almost optional saving you a lot of time.
Is it Easy to Clean?
All plastic parts of this juicing machine are top rack dishwasher safe (except for the motor base). This makes cleanup a breeze, not to mention that it has fewer parts than other juicer types. When juicing place a plastic bag in your pulp bin so you can discard your pulp with ease. The cutting disk can accumulate residue, washing it off right away is ideal. You can use a cleaning brush to remove any pulp residue. Overall, it will just take 5 minutes of your time even if you prefer washing it manually.
Juice Quality
Centrifugal juice extractors are also known as fast juicers. Some models can reach up to 19,000 RPM producing a glass of juice in just a few seconds. This can be an advantage if you have a busy lifestyle, as long as you consume your juice right away you’ll enjoy the full nutritional value out of it.
Fast doesn’t mean that it’s always good. High RPM causes high levels of oxidation. This is the exact reason why you only have 24 hour juice shelf life when using a centrifugal type extractor. In addition plastic parts that comes in contact with your produce are not BPA free which is a huge disappointment.
What Kinds of Produce Can it Juice?
Big Mouth Plus will work best on any hard produce, soft fruits and citrus fruits only. If you want to juice leafy greens or want something that can help you make soy and almond milk, getting a slow juicer might be a good idea..
Hard produce includes broccoli, apple, yakon, turmeric, ginger, cilantro, watermelon, pear, beets, sweet potato, pepper, bitter gourd, pineapple, celery, garlic, fennel, cucumber, asparagus, carrots, cauliflower and pumpkin.
Citrus fruits include tangerine, lemon, grapefruit, mandarin, lime and orange.
Soft fruits are basically non-juicable items, so expect to yield a puree when processing melon, peach, blackberry, grapes, mango, kiwifruit, cranberries, pomegranate, avocado, papaya and strawberry.
Verdict
Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Plus is a great machine for beginners. It’s an affordable dual speed juice extractor that you could get for under a hundred bucks. It’s easy to use, it’s dishwasher safe, it’s something that can really get you up and running with juicing.
Having reviewed a lot of juicers, I can only recommend this machine to beginners.
If you prefer juice quality versus affordability, cold press juicers are the way to go, but if you prefer the other way around this machine could be a perfect match for your needs. For the record in terms of functionality, your money will be well spent on this Hamilton Beach juicer.
