Hurom HU-100 Slow Juicer is a single auger dual stage vertical masticating juice extractor. It comes stylishly designed in white, black, or silver. Harnessing the ingenuity of it’s patented second generation slow squeezing technology, it procures high yield levels of juice rich in nutrients. Weighing only 13 pounds, it also has a smaller footprint, taking up less space on the kitchen counter. It has a handle making transport much easier as compared to other vertical masticating juicers in the market. Another great thing to mention is that the plastic is entirely BPA-free.
The single-phase induction motor uses 150 watts and 120 volts during operation. Unlike centrifugal juicers, it remains quiet during operation. It extracts juice with an auger speed of 80 RPM, without damaging pertinent nutrients, enzymes, and vitamins. Not to mention that the auger is extremely durable as a result of being constructed with Ultem plastic. If you didn’t know, Ultem is eight times stronger than most plastics. The strainer is also constructed of stainless steel and Ultem plastic. Since the feed chute is larger, 2.25 inches by 1.25 inches in diameter, it accepts larger pieces of produce. The spinning brush that houses the juicing strainer automatically clears it of any pulp buildup, allowing for a smoother operation.
The auto cleaning system allows you to juice different kinds of fruits and vegetables without having the need to disassemble it. Just pour one or two cups of water into the feeding chute while it’s operating then you’re good to go for your next batch of fruits and veggies.

Is it Easy to Use?
This vertical masticating juice extractor is a snap to set up once you understand where the pieces go. The feed chute is larger, yes, however to prevent the machine from getting clogged, cut up your harder produce into smaller pieces. If you want to juice items like leafy greens, wheatgrass or celery, slice them into smaller pieces, and the machine will crush them without any issues. When juicing greens or wheatgrass, it is best to alternate them with a dense vegetable to ensure the leaves do not get caught up in the juicer. The harder produce will help push it through.
It does an amazing job with most types of produce, especially when you alternate the hard and soft pieces. Even though it is self-feeding, if it seems stuck, use light pressure with the pusher to encourage the produce to catch on the auger. You should never push too hard on any of the items you place into the hopper. Keep an eye on the pulp ejection spout to ensure the machine is not clogged and still operating. As long as pulp is coming out, then you’re still in business.
Is it Easy to Clean?
Do not put the accessories or parts of the Hurom HU-100 Juicer into the dishwasher. They could become damaged, voiding the warranty due to user error. At any rate, it really takes just a few minutes to clean, rinse, and dry. Place the parts in warm, soapy water. Gently wash everything. Use the cleaning brush to remove pulp that has become stuck in the mesh screen and possibly inside of the pulp ejector tube. Once you have finished, dry the parts by hand.
If you do not have time to dry everything by hand, at least dry the strainer after washing it. Take the strainer and gently tap it to knock most of the water from the fine pores in the screen. Finish drying it with a towel. If washing in the morning seems impossible, rinse everything, and set the parts aside. However, it is highly recommended to clean the strainer to avoid having to clean the hardened pieces of pulp out of it at a later time. Tip: Allow the strainer to soak in warm water before attempting to remove any dried pulp.
Juice Quality
Like other masticating juicers, Hurom HU 100 separates the juice from the produce through a dual mastication process. The Ultem auger crushes and breaks down the produce. The pulpy liquid is pushed up against the juicing strainer with the juice exiting out of the juice ejection tube and the pulp exiting out of the pulp ejection tube. This results in a high quality juice containing nutrients, enzymes and vitamins. The juice may still have some pulp, therefore if you do not like pulp in your juice, then you will need to purchase a sieve to separate the remaining pulp. Enjoy your juice once you finish juicing or you can pour it into a container with a tight lid, keeping it in the refrigerator for up to 72 hours.
What Kinds of Produce Can it Juice?
Hard and soft produce, grasses and leafy greens can all be processed by this compact juicing machine.
Hard produce includes celery, coconut, asparagus, watermelon, ginger, pumpkin, cauliflower, beets, garlic, pineapple, pear, cilantro, turmeric, bitter gourd, pepper, cucumber, yakon, fennel, broccoli, sweet potato, carrots and apple.
Though it’s not recommended to juice soft fruits such as kiwifruit, strawberry, papaya, tomato, mango, grapes, pomegranate, melon, blackberry, peach, cranberries, and avocado you can still do it but it will produce a puree consistency instead of a juice.
Leafy greens include brussels sprout, peppermint, parsley, spring onion, pine tree needles, moringa, romaine lettuce, spinach, kale, cabbage, collard greens, wheatgrass, dandelion greens, beet greens, basil & lettuce
Citrus fruits include tangerine, grapefruit, orange, lime, lemon and mandarin.
You can also make soy and almond milk with this machine.

Verdict
The Hurom HU-100 Vertical Masticating Juicer excels at juicing all types of produce, only struggling with leafy greens when used alone. It produces a high yield of delicious juice boasting with the nutrients your body needs to stay healthy. If you already juice with a centrifugal juicer, then you are accustomed to a very fast juicer. This juicer takes some adjustment. You have to prep your produce, juice, and then also at least rinse the parts down. The quality of nutrients extracted with a masticating juicer is far greater than those extracted with a centrifugal juicer.
Some complain about the juicer clogging, but if you cut your produce into smaller pieces and slowly feed it into the juicer, it will not jam at all. The price is about average when compared to other masticating juicers. This cold-press juicer quietly extracts high yields of nutritious juice. With the improvement of replacing the older auger and screen material with the stronger Ultem plastic, this juicer is ideal for individuals who like to juice every day.
