Ranking Criteria and Pricing Info

To guarantee that we are only recommending high quality juicers, each juice press should have a customer rating of at least 4 stars. Here are the ranking criteria I used…

Juice Shelf Life and Nutrient Retention = 5%
Noise Level = 5%
Warranty = 10%
Price = 15%
Rating = 35%
No. of Reviewers = 30%

Approximate prices based on Amazon.com

$ = juicers under $100
$$ = juicers under $200
$$$ = $200 to $500
$$$$ = $500 to $1000
$$$$$ = $1000 and above

Pricing may change based on availability, special promotions, and more.. To avoid inaccuracy I created this price range to hopefully help you find the best price for your juicer.

What is a Centrifugal Juicer?

Breville Nutri Disc

The Breville Nutri-Disc

It is a tool for separating juice from fruits and vegetables (from its pulp) in a process called juicing. It usually have a vertical cylindrical design equipped with a rapidly spinning disc with teeth and blade that works similar to a grinder. Fruits and vegetable are shredded into fine pieces, then the juicer spins the cut fruits or vegetables at a high speed of 3,000 to 15,000 RPM, extracting the clear juice from the pulp

How Does it Work?

Here’s a video showing a fast juicer in action.

Pros

  • Affordable - The main advantage of centrifugal juicers is the price, from as little as $50 to $500. You can find good quality high speed juicers at around $100 to $150.
  • Fast - Some advanced centrifugal juicers have varying speed of 6,500 RPM to 15,000 RPM, fast enough to juice an apple in less than 5 seconds. If you are always on the go, this can be beneficial.
  • Less prep time - Some models have 3-inch-feeding-chute which makes the juicing process even faster, there’s no need to chop up apples or carrots and other fruits and vegetables.
  • Easy to clean - It has a few parts to assemble and disassemble which are dishwasher safe and easy to clean.

Cons

  • Short term warranty (1 Year) - Though prices are considerably affordable, warranty of centrifugal juicers are short term. Its high speed moving parts are prone to damage, which is why longer product guarantee is not feasible for manufacturers.
  • Noise levels are sometimes unbearable - Due to high RPM of motor, centrifugal juicers can make a lot of noise, but some advanced high speed juicers do have anti-vibrating technology.
  • Not ideal for leafy greens - High speed juicers “grind” fruits and vegetables, leafy greens are almost impossible to juice with this kind of technology. However, some centrifugal juicers with variable speed have a function for juicing leafy greens but I wouldn’t be surprised if the juice yield from it is a bit less. Masticating juicers on the other hand “squeezes” fruits and veggies making it an ideal juicer for leafy greens such as such as spinach, wheatgrass, kale, mint, parsley, cabbage, pine tree needles etc.
  • 24 Hours Juice shelf life - High speed grinding action allows more air to move into the juicing chamber which facilitates oxidation process or breakdown of nutrients. This speeds up the the shelf life of the juice, you have to consume it in 24 hours.
  • Lesser Nutrients are Retained - Due to the same process (oxidation), nutrient breakdown is faster but if you’ll consume the juice immediately, you’ll get almost the same amount of nutrients.
