Kuvings NS Series Slow Juicer, silver
Kuvings NS Series Slow Juicer, silver

The Kuvings NS Series Silent Upright Juicer is Kuvings’ first generation vertical masticating juicer. It comes in stunning five color variantsred, chrome, white, silver, and black. For the record, Kuvings’ naming convention and product model numbering is the most confusing among all juicer brands.

If you ever bump into the same kind of situation, just remember that the all Kuvings juicers with identical two or three letter code are the same products. Their coding system is just for identifying the color of their products.

This machine quietly operates, generating noise rising no louder than 40 to 50 decibels. For comparison, a normal conversation is about 55 decibels. It is a vertical, masticating type juicer that comes with an Ultem auger and juicing screen.

Ultem plastics are eight times stronger than most plastics on the market. This ensures that the components are strong and durable enough to handle dense, hard produce.

Plus, the plastics, including the bowls are BPA-free, which is better for your health. This electric juicer is powerful with its three horsepower squeezing power. It slowly operates at 80 RPM using only 240 watts/120 volts.

It can extract high-quality juice that retains its flavor and nutrients in comparison to centrifugal juicers.

Kuvings NS carefully extracts the juice from your produce without destroying pertinent antioxidants, enzymes, and vitamins. This is possible through its two-step masticating, cold press juicing method.

The silicone wiping blades of the rotation wiper quickly remove the pulp. It acts like windshield wipers. This prevents any build up on the mesh screen, which reduces blockage and allows you to keep juicing at a steady pace.

It’s small juicer which takes up little space, but it weighs about 14 pounds and comes with a handgrip—not a handle. While it helps with carrying it, if you struggle with it, you might want to consider placing it somewhere permanent on the kitchen counter.

Kuvings NS Series Features & Product Details

Is it asy to use?

The parts of this juice press need to be lined up properly, otherwise, it will not operate. Kuvings incorporated their Two-Step Safety Start System into the NS Series.

This prevents incorrect usage of the juicer if the magnetic safety sensor is not lined up correctly. It also comes equipped with a safety overload switch that protects it from overloading and overheating.

Before juicing, you should cut everything you intend to juice into smaller sized pieces. Even though the feed chute is 2.25 inches by 1.25 inches, you want to be certain the juicer optimally extracts juice and by precutting, you are doing exactly that.

If it is celery or leafy greens, cutting them into pieces smaller than an inch will help them move through the machine without getting caught up in it. If you follow a piece of soft produce with a hard piece, then the soft produce will juice more competently.

The issues occur when you try to juice soft produce by itself. You may find that it becomes clogged if you make that attempt. Also, you do not need the pusher unless the food gets stuck and does not auto-feed.

Normally, it gets pulled right into the juice maker, thanks to the self-feeding design.

Is it easy to clean?

While this juicing machine is easy to clean, you have to wash everything by hand in warm, soapy water as it’s not graded as dishwasher safe. Take it apart, rinse the remaining pulp, submerge, and wash.

Remove any remaining pulp from the juice strainer using the Kuving’s patented cleaning tool. Rinse and dry. The best thing to do if you do not have time to wash everything is to run the parts through a quick rinse to remove any juice or particles.

Take a minute to wash the strainer. However, if you absolutely do not have time, just remember that the pulp will dry, harden, and become stuck inside of the fine mesh holes.

If you encounter this, put it in warm, soapy water for about ten minutes to help loosen up any particles and then clean it.

Juice Quality

Keep in mind; if a juicer operates quickly, it destroys the nutrients in the juice. Since this slow juice extractor operates at only 80 RPM, it successfully extracts the juice without destroying the nutrients we need to stay healthy.

It operates using a two-step juicing process without generating heat, which speeds the degradation of the juice. As you drop the produce down the hopper, it breaks it apart with the auger, and then immediately presses it against the sturdy stainless steel juicing strainer.

The resulting juice is rich in color and full of flavor. The sooner you drink it, the better it will taste. Not to mention, you will be able to absorb more enzymes and vitamins.

This cold press juicer does not have a separate sieve to strain any remaining pulp leftover in the juice. If you prefer juice that is virtually pulp-free, then you will need to purchase one. If you would like to store it for consumption at a later time, pour it into an airtight container and keep it in the refrigerator for up to 72 hours.

While you can use a plastic container for storage, it is recommended that you use glass, but most importantly, make sure to fill it as close to the top to push out any remaining air.

What kinds of produce can Kuvings NS juice?

This Kuvings juicer can handle all types of produce—soft and hard produce, leafy greens, citrus fruits, beans and nuts.

Hard produce includes broccoli, turmeric, celery, garlic, bitter gourd, ginger, apple, cilantro, fennel, sweet potato, cucumber, watermelon, carrots, pear, pepper, cauliflower, asparagus, yakon, pumpkin, beets, pineapple and coconut.

Leafy greens include cabbage, dandelion greens, romaine lettuce, collard greens, wheatgrass, spinach, lettuce, moringa, brussels sprout, peppermint, basil, kale, beet greens, spring onion, pine tree needles and parsley.

Though this machine can process leafy greens, an 80 RPM vertical slow juicer is not ideal for juicing wheatgrass and green leafy vegetables on its own. It should be done along with other produce to aid in juice extraction.

Don’t get me wrong here, it still outperforms centrifugal juicers but it’s just not as efficient as horizontal masticating juicers. Newer upright masticating juicers running half that speed (43 RPM) can now process leafy greens and wheatgrass at a more efficient rate.

Citrus fruits include lemon, tangerine, grapefruit, mandarin, orange and lime.

You can also process soft produce such as mango, strawberry, kiwifruit, grapes, pomegranate, blackberry, cranberries, avocado, tomato, melon, papaya and peach for making puree.

You can also use this machine for making soy and almond milk to add variety to your juicing routine.

Is Kuvings NS worth it?

The bottom line is simple. The Kuvings NS Series Silent Vertical Juicer extracts better tasting juice that maintains the quality of the nutrients and enzymes than competing centrifugal juicers.

It really only juices and is not truly multifunctional, but it can be used to make soups and sauces in addition to fresh juice. Also, with that in mind, it is quite versatile as a juicer and can juice a combination of items.

It even juices the seeds of most fruits, but avoid placing the pits of peaches or cherries into it because it could damage the machine.

You can juice leafy greens, but make sure to cut your items and alternate them with dense vegetables to help move the greens through the machine if it seems to be struggling.

If it jams, then most likely you were moving too fast or put items that were too large for it to handle. It takes a few more minutes, but if everything is cut into smaller pieces, then this juicer works proficiently and quickly.

The best part about this juicer is the nutritional value and the delicious juice. The motor and all the parts are covered by a 10-year warranty. It is priced at the mid five hundred dollar range, which is quite reasonable.

Powerful, sturdy, and energy efficient, the Kuvings NS Series juices quietly and is sure to satisfy your taste buds.
