Top 15 Best Blenders

#1 Vitamix A3500 – Best Rated Blender, Best Smart Blender

Best Rated Blender - Vitamix A3500 Ascent Series

What makes Vitamix A3500 the best blender of the year is its smart features. No brand can compete with Vitamix’s line of state-of-the-art blending machines. Zip. Zilch. Zero. Nada.

It’s the flagship Ascent Series blender, with all the premium features. The best part about getting this model is the five onboard blending presets.

You can hook it up to your smartphone to unlock multiple automatic functions, but having physical buttons for smoothies, hot soups, dips and spreads, frozen desserts, and self-cleaning is more practical and user-friendly.

Vitamix’s intelligent features, however, are just the icing on the cake. Its ultimate selling point lies in its powerful motor and versatility. You can have as many accessories as you want to extend its capability.

I also have to mention that it’s one of the best-rated blenders at Amazon, garnering 4.8 out of 5 stars at the time I updated this roundup.

Vitamix A2300, Vitamix A2500, and Vitamix A3300 are also part of the Ascent Series. They are all compatible with the Perfect Blend app and the same set of accessories.

If you need a more affordable and low-tech option, you might want to check the Vitamix E310 or the Vitamix E320.

You can read the full review of Vitamix A3500 here.

#2 Nutribullet Smart Touch – Best Cheap Blender

Nutribullet Smart Touch Blender Combo, black

The Nutribullet Smart Touch Blender Combo‘s high-tech features are far from Vitamix Ascent Series, but it’s one heck of a deal. It already comes with a pair of personal cups at three times less than what you have to pay for a premium blending machine.

In short, it’s one of the best cheap blender in the market.

Though there are other affordable blenders, the Nutribullet Smart Touch has a whole lot to offer, and it doesn’t scream cheap. On top of its elegant design, it also provides convenient automatic blending presets.

The Smart Touch Blender is a powerful machine that can take on any recipe, from basic smoothies to thicker acai bowls. It can also help you crush ice, make nut butter, puree baby food, soups, nut milk, and so on.

When you purchase this blender, you’ll get a 64 oz pitcher, a 32 oz cup, and a 20 oz container.

#3 Blendtec Pro 800 – Quietest & Most Powerful Blender

Blendtec Pro 800 Professional 1800-Watt Countertop Blender, Black

Blenders are generally loud, but the quietest of them all is the Blendtec Pro 800. Or models with an enclosure system. At 65 decibels, the sound it produces is similar to a normal conversation. That’s quite significant considering that countertop blenders’ average noise level is akin to a lawnmower.

Blendtec Pro 800 is one of the quietest, yet it’s also one of the most powerful blenders on the market, with a horsepower rating of 3.8 HP.

Another alternative is Vitamix’s quietest commercial blender, “The Quiet One.” It’s the same machine that Starbucks uses. In terms of noise level, it’s one decibel less than the Blendtec Pro 800.

The only downside to these high-end blenders is the price. If you don’t have a business, it’s impractical to get an expensive blending machine. Indeed, it’s quiet, but it’s going to cost you a significant amount of investment.

You can read the full review of Blendtec Pro 800 here.

#4 Ninja SS101 – Best Smoothie Blender

best blender for smoothies - Ninja SS101

The Ninja Foodi Power Nutri Duo or simply the Ninja SS101 is currently our best smoothie blender. It’s the only personal blender that can take on thick consistencies. It can help you make traditional green smoothies as well as scoopable smoothie bowls.

In the “what to look for section,” I will explain the different types of applications your blender is capable of. Smoothie bowls happen to be one of the hardest tasks that only powerful countertop blenders can handle. I’m talking about 2.2 HP or at least 1500 watts.

Despite its size, the Ninja SS101 has a motor that is close to that level, 1200 watts to be exact. That seems insufficient, but thanks to its anti-stall technology and unique smoothie bowl container, it can process thick blends like a boss.

You can read the full review of Ninja SS101 here.

#5 Braun MultiQuick 9 – Best Immersion Blender

Braun MultiQuick 9 Variable Speed Hand Blender, Black

The underlying technology behind Braun MultiQuick 9 is what made it the top kitchen blender in the immersion blending machine category. You won’t find any other hand blender with as much efficiency as this one.

It’s also super easy to grip. You can operate it with just one hand. That’s something that you won’t find with cheap stick blenders. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg, as it has a lot more to offer than its fancy blade technology and ergonomic speed trigger.

Braun MultiQuick 7 and Braun MultiQuick 5 Vario are also good choices.

You can read the full review of Braun Hand Blender here.

Those are the top 5 blenders. Let’s continue…

Its 1000-watt motor is actually stronger than some countertop blenders like KitchenAid Diamond, Cuisinart blender, and Hamilton Beach blender. Performance-wise, the Nutribullet Pro is better at making smoothies than those full-sized machines.

The best thing about it is it comes with multiple blender bottles. You’ll get a 32 oz (950 ml) and a 24 oz (700 ml) container that doubles as to-go cups.

You can read the full review of Nutribullet Pro here.

#8 KitchenAid K400 – Best Blender for Crushing Ice

best blender for crushing ice - KitchenAid K400

Featuring a 1200-watt motor, the K400 blender can crush ice cubes in a matter of seconds. Apart from that functionality, it also has a few other preprogrammed settings for making icy drinks and smoothies, and a self-cleaning option.

Other noteworthy perks of the Kitchenaid K400 are its soft start feature and adaptive motor. Essentially, these technologies will make your blending experience easier and more efficient.

In that case, it’s also one of the best blenders for frozen fruits. It’s in the same league as Vitamix and Blendtec.

Its other features are also “super.” It has 12-speed levels, an LCD screen, five automatic cycles, a timer, and it includes a personal cup. To top it all off, it’s compatible with Breville’s vacuum pump tool—Vac Q.

You can also check out its sibling, Breville Fresh and Furious. It’s as feature-rich but more affordable.

Instant Pot Ace Plus Blender, silver

The Instant Pot Ace Plus Blender is unquestionably one of the best blenders out there. To begin with, it’s a cooking blender! So, in terms of hot recipes such as hot soups (especially chunky ones), jams, sauces, this product is the best choice.

#11 Magic Bullet – Best Small Blender

The Original Magic Bullet, Silver

Nutribullet produces the best small blenders in the market. The most popular in its mini product lineup is the Magic Bullet. It comes with three single-serve cups—12 oz (350 ml), 18 oz (500 ml), 20 oz (600 ml).

If you want to go even smaller, you can have the Magic Bullet Mini. It ships with a 10 oz (300 ml) cup and as well as a 16 oz container (475 ml).

However, the original Magic Bullet is more of a better deal, as it’s fully upgradable. You can buy a secondary blade for crushing ice or maybe a grinding blade for your coffee beans.

You can read the full review of Magic Bullet here.

#12 Ninja Foodi HB152 – Best Glass Blender

Ninja Foodi HB152 Hot and Cold Blender, Black

Indeed, the Ninja Foodi H1B2 is the best glass blender. There are other options out there, but it’s the only model that can bring your soups to a boil. You can even saute in it.

Blending machines with a glass jar include the Hamilton Beach Blender, Oster Pro 1200, and Cuisinart Blender. Nothing in that list comes close to Ninja Foodi H1B2’s functionality.

With other high-powered blender like Vitamix, Blendtec and Breville, you’ll only reach a peak temperature of 165°F or 74°C. The Ninja Foodi Hot and Cold Blender can go over 212°F (100°C). On that note, it’s also a great blender for making hot piping soups.

You can read the full review of Ninja Foodi HB152 here.

#14 Ninja Foodi SS401 – Best All-Around and Best Value

Ninja Foodi SS401 Blender

UPDATE: The more recent Ninja Foodi SS401 4-in-1 outranks the previous best all-in-one blender, Ninja BN801

Here’s what makes it so much better:

First off, it’s more robust than any of the previous Ninja Kitchen Systems. In other words, it can now effortlessly make thick blends such as smoothie bowls and nut butter.

Secondly, the central unit looks cleaner thanks to the dial-type control with a digital display. Besides, with the 7 walkaway blend settings, the usability is so much simpler. And best of all, it features 10 speeds, so making a wide range of textures is easy-peasy.

Nutribullet Go Wireless Rechargeable Compact Blending Machine, Red

Just so you know, the Nutribullet GO is a new product from the brand. I bet we can both agree that it’s one of the best cordless blenders in the market—fun fact: there’s just a handful of them.

It’s a lightweight blender that is excellent for your travel adventure or camping trip. It comes with a USB port for charging. At full capacity, it can help you make up to 20 drinks.

But here’s the catch: It’s not as powerful as the Magic Bullet, let alone the Nutribullet Pro. It only has 70-watt of processing power. That’s not too impressive, but it’s good enough for basic recipes.

The Ultimate Blender Buying Guide

Types of Blender

Countertop Blenders

countertop blenders

Countertop blenders are traditional blending machines with large-capacity containers. It could either come with a glass jar or a more modern plastic jug. Originally, it was invented for making milkshakes, but it has evolved into multi-functional kitchen equipment.

Countertop blending machines are the best household blenders.

These days you can use a countertop blender for various applications, such as pureeing soup, making baby food, preparing sauces and dips, and blending green smoothies. Depending on your machine’s torque and accessories, your blender can also help you crush ice, knead your dough, grind whole grains, etc.

Personal Blenders

personal blenders

Personal blenders are also called single-serve blending machines or portable blenders. They have mini containers that are ideal for smaller batches of recipes. Its cup sizes range from 10 oz (300 ml) up to a liter, which also doubles as a travel bottle.

You can take it with you at the gym, at work, while jogging, doing yoga, and whenever you need to bring a dose of nutrient-dense smoothie. In short, it’s highly portable. It’s the blender of choice among highly active individuals.

Immersion Blenders

immersion blenders

Immersion blenders are popular among chefs. It’s mainly used for pureeing large quantities of soup and as an emulsifying tool. If you love making soups from scratch and you love to experiment, you can add a hand blender to your arsenal of kitchen gadgets.

Bonus Type: Blender-Juicer aka Bluicer

It’s a fact that you can juice with a blender. However, you need a sieve or a cheesecloth to separate the juice from the pulp effectively. This hybrid product solves that problem. If you’re undecided between getting a centrifugal juicer and a blender, why not get a bluicer?

Sadly, I haven’t reviewed any blender-juicer combo yet, but it’s on my to-do list. I will update this guide once I’ve gone thru all the juicer-blenders out there. As far as I know, Breville and Ninja have products in this niche.

To be honest, blenders are more straightforward products than juicers. It doesn’t have any complicated subtypes. It’s either you’re getting a full-sized blender or a more portable one. You don’t have to decide between the different types of centrifugal and slow juicers.

How to choose the best home blender?

Budget

A blender can cost as little as $20 to as much as $800. For a decent product, the median price is $150. As a general rule, work within your budget. If you don’t want to spend more than the average market price, you need to take a pass on premium blenders like Vitamix and Blendtec.

But if you have some cash to spare, I would highly recommend getting the Vitamix A3500. That is our top blender, and that’s the model that I have at home. Nothing comes close to Vitamix in terms of blending performance, thanks to its superb engineering.

Blend Quality

There are several factors at play when we’re talking about blend quality. Mainly it’s about the motor power, but blade design and container profile also contribute to the overall performance.

Motor Power

smoothies

2.2 horsepower (HP) or 1400 watts is the benchmark for a high-performance countertop blender. Anything less than that would struggle on recipes with a super thick consistency, crushing ice, and processing leafy greens.

Please note that this rule only applies to full-sized blenders. Ninja Foodi Power Nutri Duo, for example, can take on hard to blend food despite its small size and less-than-average power rating.

Let me provide a deeper context of what you can make with your blending machine relative to its torque rating.

* A coarse grind will do for coffee beans. Pulverizing it will ruin the flavor.

Advanced Level Recipes:

hot soup
**Hot Soup
* Only a number of high-performance blenders can make a fine flour.
** There are only a few blenders that can heat your soup through friction heat or by means of a built-in heating element.

Most blenders can handle easy and intermediate recipes. But, the last part is reserved for heavy-duty blending machines. That includes Vitamix blenders with at least 2.2 HP, any Blendtec with 1560+ watt motor, Breville Super Q, Dash Chef Power Blender, and Oster Versa Pro.

Blade & Pitcher Profile

Blender blade designs
Clockwise from top left: Ninja, Vitamix, Blendtec, Breville

For a blender to be efficient at crushing every bit of food inside it, the blade and container should work hand-in-hand. It has to achieve an inward vortex that brings the ingredients back into the blade system. You’ll find this essential feature from brands like Vitamix, KitchenAid, Nutribullet, Dash, Breville, Oster, and to some degree Blendtec.

Ninja Kitchen’s stacked blade system works differently. It relies on turbulence, hoping that the three levels of blade will catch all the ingredients. The thing is, you can’t expect a silky smooth result with that setup.

Variable Speed

Vitamix A3500 Ascent Series Touch Interface

Having multiple speed levels is excellent if you want to achieve different textures. Slower revolutions per minute (RPM) is ideal for making sauces and chunky dips. The faster it goes, the smoother your blend will be.

Vitamix, Blendtec, and Kitchenaid are some brands that offer that flexibility. If you’re lucky enough, you may even get a few preprogrammed blending cycles for a particular type of recipe. It will take the hassle out of blending, if you will.

Noise Level

High-performance blenders are, needless to say, loud. However, they can vary from super loud, a tad noisy, and to some sort of quiet. The truth is, a quiet blender doesn’t exist. The most silent blender that we have reviewed is the Blendtec Pro 800. It has a noise level of 65 decibels (DB), comparable to a normal conversation.

Next in line would be the Vitamix Ascent Series with a noise level of 84 DB. Well, it’s not that impressive as it’s still as loud as a lawnmower. But it’s not like a Ninja BN801 that can reach a peak noise level of 95 DB. That is in the range of a jackhammer pounding the road or fireworks explosion.

Another option would be to get a commercial blender like this one.

Most of the compact blenders with lower HP don’t have this issue. If you don’t wake someone up when making your morning smoothie, you might want to opt for a smaller blending machine.

Technology

Perfect Blend App
Perfect Blend App User Interface by Vitamix

There’s just one smart blender that I know of, and that’s the Vitamix Ascent Series. You can hook it up to your smartphone and, from there, you can pick a recipe that will guide you through the entire process.

I’m quite sure it’s not for everybody, as having more features to tinker with increases the complexity of using your blender.

At least, you should look for something with automatic cycles. Apart from Vitamix, Ninja also offers a few preprogrammed settings—they call it Auto-IQ. And you’ll also find it in other popular brands under a different buzzword.

These set-and-forget programs will allow you to multitask. It’s a helpful feature if you have a busy kitchen.

Ease of Use

dishwasher safe

Blenders with fewer features are generally easy to use. Take a look at the Nutribullet Pro 1000. It doesn’t have any buttons at all. All you need is a quick twist and push to get it to run. With smaller parts, assembly and aftercare is also a breeze.

The bigger your blender gets, the more difficult it is to deal with. If you hate cleaning up, pick a model that is dishwasher friendly.

Size & Capacity

A full-sized blender has its perks. It’s designed for heavy-duty usage, perfect for making multiple servings of smoothies and soups. If you have a tight kitchen counter, you might want to consider getting a model with a low-profile container.

Traditional blenders like the Vitamix Professional Series or the Vitamix 5200 are so tall. It’s going to be an issue if you have an overhead cabinet on top of your counter space. Fortunately, most modern full-sized blenders now offer a low-profile jar.

If you’re only planning to make smoothies for yourself, then a small blender would better suit your needs. The best thing about personal type blenders is its container usually doubles as a travel cup.

Glass Jar vs. Plastic Container

Glass blenders are becoming rarer and rarer due to the fact that polycarbonate is more durable. However, plastic also has its own issues. It may leach harmful toxins such as BPA and other estrogen-like compounds which have been linked to cancer.

kitchenaid k400 glass jar

Even if you’re getting a BPA-free product, it may still contain other Estrogen Acting compounds. But here’s a fact. We are already breathing or maybe drinking microplastics. It’s already a part of our daily life.

If you want to limit your exposure to these chemicals when drinking your smoothie, then you might opt for a blender with a glass jar. Going back to the blender reviews, it’s our top tenth blender.

Or, at the very least, get something that is BPA-free. The good news is, all of the products in this buying guide are BPA-free

Another fact:

BPA and other harmful compounds in plastic only each under certain conditions. Specifically under extreme heat or when tough items from your recipe scrape it. So, I don’t really recommend making hot soups with your blender unless it comes with a glass container.

Making smoothies, therefore, is generally safe with plastic blenders.

Accessories

The beauty of getting a full-sized blender is its extensibility. You can get one motor base with attachments for multiple applications. It eliminates the need to buy a separate food processor or a personal blender.

This concept is the exact business model of Vitamix. Say if you’ll buy the Vitamix A2300, you’re free to upgrade later on. You can get a secondary container for dry grains, a 20 oz (590 ml) blending cup kit, an 8 oz (236 ml) blending bowl accessory, or better yet, a 12-cup food processor attachment.

blender accessories

Blendtec and Kitchenaid also do this, but the available accessories are quite limited. Small blenders such as Magic Bullet also ship with multiple accessories, but it lacks the power and size to rival a proper food processor.

If you think you’ll be needing these extra functionalities, pick a blender with compatible accessories or get an all-in-one product bundle right away.

Warranty / Build Quality

If you’re looking for the best quality blender, more often, you just need to look at the length of warranty coverage. Getting six to ten years of product guarantee is pretty standard for a high-end blender. For cheaper ones, don’t expect to get more than a year’s worth of coverage.

In this buying guide, the Vitamix A3500, Blendtec Professional, and Breville Blender Super Q have the longest warranty. Even better? Vitamix is the only brand that covers normal wear and tear.

Another telltale of a long-lasting product is the gear. Naturally, blenders with metal cogs are more durable than plastic ones. Lucky for us, the majority of high-performance blenders feature this highly durable gear.

Over to You

Since you reached the end of this buying guide, hopefully, at least I narrowed down your list. You already know what to look for. We’ve also covered all the good blenders on the market.

With that said, let me leave you with the best blender available todayVitamix Ascent A3500.

FAQs

What is a good quality blender?

A good blender should have the perfect balance of functionality and affordability. Best of all, it should serve its purpose.
