Ninja Smoothie Blender: Ninja Foodi SS101 Power Nutri Duo
Ninja Smoothie Blender: Ninja Foodi SS101 Power Nutri Duo

Before discussing the Ninja Foodi Power Nutri Duo or the Ninja Smoothie Blender in detail, let’s differentiate a regular shake and a smoothie bowl.

Here’s the thing:

A smoothie bowl is thicker, and it’s meant to be consumed using a spoon. Its consistency is closer to that of an ice cream.

I’m quite sure you’re familiar with a traditional smoothie. There’s a good chance you had one today, or perhaps this week.

Alright, I hope that’s pretty clear.

I’ve checked all the single-serve Nutri Bullet blenders, and there’s nothing there that’s as powerful as this one. It’s not just the Best Compact Ninja Smoothie Maker, but it has dominated the entire market in this class.

What makes the Ninja SS101 process thick blends is its powerful motor, the upgraded hybrid edge blades, and the Power Nutri Bowl.

We’ll talk about those features in a bit.

In the meantime, let’s check this smoothie blender’s main advantages and, of course, what the brand isn’t telling you (the cons).

PROS

  • Compact design
  • Affordable
  • Quieter than the old Nutri Ninjas
  • 4 blend modes
  • Digital control panel
  • Pulse button

  • It can process thick smoothies with the 14 oz power nutri bowl

  • 1-year warranty

CONS

  • Not designed for making hot soups
  • The power nutri bowl has hard to reach areas, needs extra attention when cleaning
  • Still a little loud. Our tests rated this device at 102.3 decibels.

Ninja Foodi Power Nutri Duo Features

What can you make with Ninja Smoothie Blender?

The brand clearly states that the Ninja SS101 is a personal blender and a smoothie bowl maker. Well, it rightfully deserves that title. To begin with, it’s the only single-serve blending machine that can take on thick smoothies.

To make an ice-cream like consistency, you need more torque and need to keep your ingredients from sticking to the sides of your container. This product solved that problem with its SmartTORQUE technology, edged blade design, and the Power Nutri Bowl.

Aside from being a powerful smoothie bowl maker, it’s also good for:

Just keep in mind:

  • Use the Power Nutri Bowl for thick blends.
  • Don’t process hot items with any of the included containers.
  • Keep the ingredients below or just right the maximum level.

Is Ninja Foodi SS101 easy to use?

The Ninja Smoothie Bowl Maker works similar to the Nutri Ninja Blender. You’ll assemble the blade and cup the same way, but there are now four Auto-IQ modes—extract, smoothie, spread, bowl.

Ninja SS101 Power Nutri Duo Control Panel

When making traditional shakes, use either the extract or smoothie button. The extract will run for about 72 seconds, while the smoothie option has a shorter duration of 55 seconds. If you need more thorough blending, go for the extract mode.

Making a smoothie bowl and nut butter is a bit complicated. First, you need to get familiar with the Power Nutri Bowl. The top part of this container has a rotary tamper/spatula. Twisting it constantly will prevent the ingredients from sticking at the sides for a smoother blend.

If you’re making nut butters, push the spread button. This cycle will run for about 45 seconds. And lastly, when the situation calls for the smoothie bowl mode, expect your Ninja Foodi Power Nutri Duo to run for 30 seconds.

Keep in mind: Work on your rotary tamper when processing dense recipes.

With respect to cleaning and maintenance, thankfully, all of the attachments are top-rack dishwasher safe. However, you’ll have to be more thorough with the Power Nutri Bowl after making oily recipes like nut butters.

How to Make a Smoothie Bowl with the Ninja Foodi Power Nutri Duo

These instructions are from the recipe guide that comes in the box. Be sure to see my comments for additional tips 🙂

  1. Add milk or milk alternative such as soy, coconut, almond, or oat milk, up to the LIQUID FILL line.* See Comment Below Always do this first.
  2. Add frozen fruit, directly from freezer, and.or açaí or dragon fruit packets up to the MAX FILL line. Cur larger fruit, like bananas, in quarters. If using açaí or dragon fruit packets, thaw slightly and cut in quarters.
  3. (Optional) Amplify your base by adding 1 scoop of yogurt, flavor powder, protein powder, and/or nut butter.
  4. Screw on the blade assembly and install the bowl maker on the motor base. Select BOWL then twist the built-in tamper counterclockwise continuously while processing.
  5. After blending is complete, add your favorite toppings, such as coconut flakes, granola, fresh bananas, berries, and agave nectar.

*If you want a very thick smoothie bowl, do not fill your liquid up to the LIQUID FILL line. In our testing, doing so always results in very thin and runny smoothie bowls. This may be fine, but if not, use this tip for thicker smoothie bowls.

Don’t take my word for it, here’s a quick demo video of this compact Ninja Smoothie Maker.

Moreover, the Ninja SS101 features a 14 oz (414 mL) Power Nutri bowl with a rotary tamper. Plus, there are two 24 oz (709 mL) cups for on-the-go convenience.

Is Ninja Smoothie Blender worth it?

Among all the single-serve blender that I have reviewed, the Ninja SS101 Foodi Power Nutri Duo Smoothie Bowl Maker and Personal Blender has to be on top of the list. It’s the best, most powerful, compact single-serve blending machine that won’t burn a hole in your pocket.
